Waterfall

Client waterfall Design, Stellenbosch

My Client had a slope at the back of her garden and was keen to have a Waterfall. It was also important that we dealt with the slopes either side of the to-be waterfall. I had myself and 3 men ( 1 Brickie) on site for this project, no small bulldozers, the Client wanted us to work with spades and wheelbarrows.  There was a lot of digging, leveling, moving soil, and then placing in the retainers for the levels either side of the to be Waterfall, two huge areas.  We dug the collection wells all the way down and dug the main dam right at the bottom.  Everything was bricked with strengthening wire in between the brick structures to hold the weight.

Exceedingly strong steel mesh was put in to the base of each well, then the cement plastering was completed.  A biofilter was put in at the top and once the water was in I planted Dietes bicolor, Arum lilies, Restio's.
The plastered walls and wells, dams were painted in a special waterproof paint, a sand colour to minimize leakages. It was not an easy project and a lot of sheer hard work for us all, but it all came together and worked beautifully.

Before we started, just very dry lawn, ready to be sculptured into a waterfall
One of the waterfall pools taking shape
The smaller holes that are water captive areas leading into the main pool, dug
The initial pool at the top which water will flow into all the water captive areas en route to the main pool
The garden was sloped, we dug it into tiers, this was lawned with Mazus ground cover planted into the brick holes
Bottom main 'dam' area collecting all the water with a glorious rush of water as it spills in
The top pond prior to waterproof painting
The ponds are pretty much completed. need finishing off and stones and plants arranged around each hole
