Client Raised Garden Design, Claremont, South Africa

My Client had back issues and wanted a garden that she could access easily.  We decided to build raised walls on an otherwise flat piece of rather uninteresting garden lawn with nothing in it. The foundations for the walls and the feature pond were dug and the bricking began. Against the long brick border wall we planted plum and apple trees for an espallier.  These can't be seen in the photo as they had not achieved great growth by the time these photos were taken. Once the raised beds were completed, a vermicompost and vermipotting soil went in, tons of it!  I love using Worm compost and potting soil as the growing results are phenomenal. At the behest of my Client, Herbs, Shrubs, Fruit trees and vegetables were planted.

Every wall and pathway in this photo was built by my team, including the central water feature, containing a myriad of vegetables, fruit, berries and salad and smoothie herbs.
The back wall was planted with plums, apples, Leons and Lime trees which were to be espalliered along the wall and in the front, lettuces, vegetables of every kind, this was a view from the clients landing
The central themed water feature that a pipe was inserted to give a fountain-like appearance of flowing water. Around it we planted Gaura white.
Lawn was added. plus Chamomile roman for a soft feel and bringing the entire garden together.
This is the view my client has from her sitting room, she was extremely happy with this view of food growing!
Beans were planted to climb up the trellius we made from latte poles and a variety of cabbage, kale, spinach and all sorts of vegetables that are good for you!
A delicious plater made with all of her produce! Our lunch!
Another view from the base of the garden, it was such a fun project and the client, who suffers from a bad back was thrilled she did not have to do any bending to harvest her family's supper!
Sheer abundance of Spinach, Fruit, every kind of delicious vegetable, wonder salads with Rocket, Mizuna, Japanese red mustard, Chillies...would take up far too much space to list them all :)
